  28. i need help...
  29. i bought the synergy multimedai upgrade kit, and asked for the CDrom (sony 31A
  30. compatible) daughtercard adapter. Well, it's this nice tiny little board that
  31. piggy backs on the GUS, now the board need it's own DMA, IRQ and port address,
  32. which i currently set to DM 3, IRQ 5, and port 340.

  34. My GUS is on 220 DMA 7 IRQ 11 SBOS IRQ 7
  35.  
  36. now the clincher is that the device drivers for the CDrom drive install and are
  37. executed properly, in fact teh CDrom light lights up when the driver
  38. initialises, and also lights up when MSCDEX runs. All the drivers and MSdex
  39. report that the CDrom drive was successfully initialised, but then i switch to
  40. drive G: (i have 4 HDD partitions and also 2 FDD), insert a CDrom disk, wait
  41. for the light to go off (after loading the CDrom), i do a dir command, and lo
  42. and behold i get

  44. CDR101: Drive is not ready
  45. (A)bort (R)etry (I)gnore ?

  47. gosh this happens countless times..
  48.  
  49. okie so the obvious thing is to check for IRQ clashes, i discover that my
  50. serial card's com2 is alos hogging IRQ 5, so i promptly remove the offending
  51. jumper, fine... i do the same thing.... SAME message !!!!
  52.  
  53. next comes the port address, i try 360, 330, 320, ALL give the saem messge and
  54. problems,
  55.  
  56. then the IRQ on the daughtercard is changed from 5 to 4, Comport freezes up,
  57. and the message
  58.  
  59. CDR101: Unable to read drive
  60. (A)bort (R)etry (I)gnore ?
  61.  
  62. comes out...
  63.  
  64. change IRQ to 6, and my FDD controller fails
  65.  
  66. change IRQ to 3, my com 1 freezes up and i get

  71. so now i try DMA, i leave the IRQ back to 5, and chose DMA1, i get

  76. so change to DMA 2, my HDD dun light up and boot. 8(

  78. so back to DMA 3, same problem again !!!!!

  80. IS THERE SOMETHING I AM DOING WRONG ?

  82. does the daughtercard require me to pull some jumpers or change some jumper
  83. positions on the GUS card itself ? There is not documentation on the other
  84. jumpers on the GUS !

  110. is my CDrom driver faulty ? or am i doing something wrong ? does the
  111. daughtercard require some special jumpers or anything else ?

  131.     Can anyone give me any information on the Ultrasound MAX
  132. and a price if anyone has one. I have also heard a rumor that a
  133. ultrasound version is coming out with SoundBlaster Pro chips or something
  134. built, if anyone knows anything about this, the information will be

  194. To get DOOM to run properly with both music and digitized sound effects
  195. on the Gravis Ultrasound:  3 steps.

  201. (1) Set your ULTRASND environment variable, and use GF1 IRQ less than 8
  202.

  208. (2) Doom requires that you have installed the General MIDI patch set from
  209. the 2.06 Install Disks that came with your Ultrasound (and are also

  211. ULTRADIR variable) in the MIDI subdirectory pointed to by ULTRADIR.

  253.     corresponding switch with MegaEm for -NOEMS.  The -NOEMS switch is risky

  260. Please help a beginner who has read the FAQ and DOS docs but is still
  261. confused. My G2000 486 machine runs EMM386 with the -noems switch. If
  262. I try to run megaem -noems I still get a message saying there is not
  263. enough EMS space.

  265. What is the reason for using EMM386 with the -noems switch? What will
  266. I be risking if I get rid of it? Will that be likely to solve my
  267. problem getting megaem to run?

  345. Someone posted about a prolem with XWING and it jumping everytime you target. I 
  346. would also like to know how to stop this problem. If it is a problem with a 
  347. memory manager, I need a solution for QEMM though, not EMM386.

  349. Also, Does anybody know which patch is used on a 1 MB GUS for the SFX beep when 
  350. changing to a new target? I found that when I use MegaEm, there is no 
  351. [beep-beep] sound effect, I'd like to change the patch to something that is 
  352. audible.
